Funding for the Western Sailing Team comes from a small budget set up by Western's Office of Campus Recreation and the Sport Club Council. The money in this account is used for things such as travel to regattas, entry fees, and national and district dues. The team also maintains a separate boat buying account through The Western Foundation. The money in this account is from team dues, fundraising and donations. The funds in our foundation account are used for buying new equipment and boats for the team. The goal of the team is to buy a new boat every two years. In 2002, we bought a new FJ and thanks to hard work and generous donations, the team raised enough money to buy two new FJs when the district hosted the ICSA North American Championships at Cascade Locks in the Columbia River Gorge in 2004.
